Setting Up DMARC Directly from Your DNS Host

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) protects your domain from phishing and spoofing attacks. This guide will help you set up DMARC directly from your DNS host. Follow the steps based on your domain’s status:

Option 1: Domain Not Yet Added and Verified in EasyDMARC

If your domain is not yet added to EasyDMARC, you’ll need to add it and verify it by using a TXT record. Here’s how to proceed:

Steps to Add and Verify a Domain with a TXT Record:

1. Add Your Domain in EasyDMARC:

  • Log in to your EasyDMARC account.
  • Navigate to the "All Domains" section and click on "Add Domain."

  • After inputting the domain select the second verification option (TXT Record) during the domain setup process.

2. Access Your DNS Control Panel:

  • Log in to your DNS hosting provider’s control panel using your credentials.
  • Locate the DNS management section (often labeled as "DNS Settings" or "Manage DNS").

3. Create a TXT Record:

  • Look for the option to add or edit DNS records.
  • Select "TXT Record" as the record type.

4. Define the Host/Name:

  • In the "Host" or "Name" field, enter _dmarc (without quotes).
  • Ensure your domain has only one DMARC record, multiple DMARC records will cause failures.

5. Set the Value/Text:

  • Copy the value provided by EasyDMARC and paste it into the "Value" or "Text" field. This value contains EasyDMARC’s specific reporting address.

6. Save the Record:

  • Save the TXT record after entering the details.
  • It should look like this:

7. Wait for DNS Propagation:

  • Allow up to 24-48 hours for DNS changes to propagate.
  • EasyDMARC will verify domain ownership once the reporting address is active in your DNS.

Verify DMARC Functionality:

Once the domain is verified, EasyDMARC will begin receiving and parsing DMARC XML reports from email servers. You can monitor your DMARC data in the EasyDMARC dashboard.

Option 2: Domain Already Added in EasyDMARC

If your domain is already added and verified in EasyDMARC with a CNAME DMARC record (Managed DMARC), you can configure your DMARC settings directly in EasyDMARC. However, if you prefer to manage your DMARC record manually, you can refer to our detailed guide: How to Stop Managing a Domain in Managed DMARC: Configuration Guide.

Steps for Domains Using Managed DMARC:

  1. Log in to your EasyDMARC account.
  2. Access the domain that is already verified with a CNAME DMARC record.
  3. Configure and manage your DMARC policy directly within the EasyDMARC portal.

If you no longer wish to use Managed DMARC and prefer manual management, follow the instructions in the linked guide to switch back to manual configuration.
